Why Dubai is brutal on pools
Three forces work against your pool constantly:
- UV and heat destroy chlorine. At 35–40°C water temperature under intense sun, free chlorine can fall from a safe 2 ppm to nearly zero within days. No chlorine means nothing is sanitising the water.
- Dust never stops. Fine desert dust settles into the pool daily, feeding the filter, clouding the water, and carrying nutrients that help algae grow.
- Warm water is an incubator. Algae and bacteria reproduce faster in warm water. A Dubai pool in August is at biological full speed — a missed week can be visible; two missed weeks usually are.
A pool cleaned “when it looks like it needs it” is being cleaned too late by definition: by the time water looks wrong, chemistry failed days earlier.
When twice a week is the right call
- Peak summer (June–September) for heavily used family pools
- Holiday home and Airbnb pools — high bather turnover, and every guest arrival is a deadline
- Pools near construction or on the desert edge (Arabian Ranches, DAMAC Hills) after windy weeks
- Shared pools — townhouse clusters and building pools, where bather load and regulation both demand more
